Prepare for the propaganda wave
May 12, 2007

Prepare yourselves for a big wave of Global Warming propaganda that will be put out by the media empire of Rupert Murdoch (CEO of News Corp, Fox News, 20th Century Fox, Myspace.com, and countless newspapers around the world). The purpose of this propaganda; to cause people to change their behavior. How typical for that media empire. Murdoch vowed to “weave climate messaging into the content and programming of News Corp.’s many holdings” and intends to add a few layers of drama and vividness to the message of climate change;

“The challenge is to revolutionize the [climate change] message,” Murdoch told the crowd. He emphasized the need to “make it dramatic, make it vivid, even sometimes make it fun. We want to inspire people to change their behavior.”

This is a strange turn for the media empire but not if you look beyond the drama and the vivid nature of their intentions; making money, keeping advertisers, and bombarding the viewer with the climate change propaganda. And not just in the news but also in sitcoms and other programming. Brainwashing starts by repeating things.

While he voiced concerns that “climate change poses clear, catastrophic threats,” his emphasis was on opportunities to fatten the bottom line. “Our advertisers are asking us for ways to reach audiences on this issue,” Murdoch said.

News Corp. Vice President of Business Development Roy Bahat told Grist that the company will not try to awkwardly wedge the issue into programs, but said, “It will naturally become more prevalent throughout our programming, be it sitcoms or news. We are asking all of our creative leaders to incorporate climate change in ways that would make drama more dramatic, or comedy funnier, or news more relevant — ways that inspire viewers to bond with the program.”

This, in case you haven’t caught up yet, is the same Rupert Murdoch who had admitted that he attempted to shape the public opinion on the Iraq war in favor of the Bush administration. Shaping public opinion. What nation requires their opinion, either collectively or individually, to be shaped by the propaganda they are bombarded with? Have people become unable to form an opinion on their own?
